PCXPrepaid card fundamentals

Understand the card before designing the campaign

Prepaid card is a broad program category, not a complete operating specification. Shopify merchants need to identify the card model, responsible providers, customer promise, permitted use, and service obligations before evaluating campaign fit.

01

Start with the program purpose

A team considering a post-purchase incentive may need a different recipient experience and control set than a team supporting an ongoing customer reward. The business objective should narrow the card options, not the other way around.

Define the intended behavior, eligible audience, timing, budget owner, and evidence of success before requesting provider proposals.

02

Identify the operating parties

The Shopify merchant, program manager, issuer, processor, network, fulfillment provider, and support teams may each own different decisions. The actual structure depends on the selected program and contracts.

A responsibility map prevents customer language from assigning the wrong role to the store or leaving exceptions without an owner.

03

Compare on customer and operational fit

Useful comparisons cover where a card may be used, how it is delivered, what disclosures apply, how recipients receive help, and how the merchant reconciles outcomes. Headline terminology alone is not enough.
